— CHARACTER INFO.

"You are a little prince, Embry Moore, in every way I can imagine. Rich and spoiled, like Sebastian... and yet dreamy and sad, like the little prince from Saint-Exupéry's book."
NOTE: the politics in this series are 100% fictional. i will generally not reference current events! new camelot is a loose, modern day (early 2000s-ish), kink-filled mmf retelling of the story of king arthur.
EMBRY MOORE, 36, bisexual. the wealthy, tortured, haughty, dissolute son of the terrifying lieutenant governor vivienne moore. attended an exclusive all-boys boarding school, graduated early from yale, enlisted and went off to play soldier in the carpathian mountains because it sounded like an adventure before entering his inevitable career in politics. currently: the vice president of the united states, rankly promiscuous, heavy drinker, and desperately in love with the president and his wife.
embry meets ash colchester during his enlistment in carpathia, who would become his best friend and lover over years of ups and downs, but first is a thorn in his fucking side. embry resents that ash immediately clocks him for his empty carnality and spends the following months “hating” ash’s perfection, nobility, and heroism, and essentially develops a deep attraction for him. in an epic self-sabotaging move, he orchestrates for ash to fuck his stepsister, morgan, during their r&r time, in an attempt to bury the growing relationship between them. this only serves to make embry miserable; however, morgan introduces ash to the world of kink, which will eventually play a big part in embry’s life.
right before embry completes his enlistment, ash finally confesses his feelings to embry and kisses him, asking him to pursue a relationship. embry, at this point, has realized that ash needs someone to dominate, and chafes against the idea of being submissive to anyone. more than that, he feels completely unworthy of ash’s feelings, seeing himself as selfish, heartless, and broken compared to a noble and decent person such as ash. despite wanting to be with ash, embry makes a weak excuse and leaves carpathia the next day. he does not speak to ash for the next three years despite ash reaching out via email. embry stays at his mother’s lake house and loses himself in a string of meaningless fucks and heavy drinking until the war takes a turn for the worse and he’s called back to duty.
his second round in carpathia starts off badly, with his attraction to ash flaring up tenfold the second he sees him, only this time ash is his direct captain. embry is in an exceedingly unhealthy place emotionally as the war worsens, and ends up making a rash decision during a crucial moment that nearly costs him his life. he is shot twice and ash is the only one there to help him, dragging him to safety and watching over him all night while administering morphine stolen from dead carpathian soldiers. it’s here that both their resentment and affection comes spilling over, and they have bloody, messy sex there in the woods with embry high on morphine. once they reach safety, embry enters rehab for three months to recover from his wounds.
embry craves the fight and the defeat that follows during his relationship with ash, which he finally pursues once he recovers. ash gives him everything he never knew he needed, pushing him to his limits where he finds a place of peace away from his emotional and mental demons. they fall deeply in love. though embry is loathe to admit such a thing, he’s never experienced such a connection or such happiness in his life before, and treasures his relationship with ash despite his poor emotional health and feelings of unworthiness. he is, unofficially, ash’s submissive, and they spend the remainder of their deployment together as model closeted men. throughout this time, embry is well aware that ash has a special calling in life and that he is the kind of man that can enact real change in the world, because he is good and people will follow him. this becomes an insurmountable hurdle for embry when a man named merlin, pulling the strings of ash’s career, tells embry that ash will run for office and that it will affect his future to be openly queer, and embry must be prepared to make sacrifices because of this.
wrestling with this knowledge, embry realizes that his happiness is not worth ash’s life and the possibilities before him. ash is willing to give up everything for him, and embry refuses to allow it, because how could someone as good and noble as ash throw away everything for an empty, self-loathing man like him? ash proposes to him in carpathia although same-sex marriage is not yet legal in america, and embry sells the lie that ash is good enough to fuck but not enough to marry, breaking both of their hearts for ash’s protection.
embry never falls out of love with ash and asks to stay by his side, keeping up the lie that the sex can be fun and uncomplicated. they continue on after the war, running for office together; ash becomes president of the united states and embry vice president. embry suffers in silence as ash marries a woman named jenny, a woman perfectly kind but a woman who can’t scratch the itch inside of him. however, embry is the one constantly running from both ash and his own happiness in his own self-sacrificial crusade, so he keeps a smile on his face and finds other men and women to drown his sorrows in. it's during this time that he meets greer for a single passionate night, and thinks he might actually be able to find love and purpose outside of ash. this turns out to be false when he discovers the next morning that ash and greer met years ago and share a significant bond despite being unable to act upon their feelings. because of this, embry gives up all contact with greer for the next several years despite his own feelings for her.
the beginning of ash’s presidency is haunted by jenny’s death, who passes away from cancer, and this is when ash and embry rekindle their romance and both begin their journey at lyonesse, a highly exclusive kink club that serves wealthy, high-profile clients with the utmost discretion. embry once again unofficially serves as ash's sub, though he still refuses to be openly loved in any other way, and they fall back into a desperately passionate relationship behind the closed doors of the white house.
a year later, ash proposes to embry once more, having always loved him more than a career, more than anything. same-sex marriage is now legal, although being openly queer in politics is another matter entirely. embry, despite wanting to say yes and finally stop sacrificing his own happiness, has to say no to protect ash’s presidency, wounding ash again, and hates himself more than ever because of it. he effectively dumps ash and breaks his own heart yet again.
soon after, greer walks back into both of their lives, and embry watches their fairy tale romance unfold — the president and his princess.
the little prince deserves to be alone.
